THE WONDERS OF MAD MAX PART 2: FURIOSA

In continuation from my review on Mad Max: Fury Road, I was wanted to continue on this subject and expand upon more of the story and focus on the characters, one in particular being Charlize Theron's character: Furiosa. Her character can be listed with that of Ellen Ripley from Alien lore with showing women in a light that is grounded, brave and vulnerable. Furiosa provided a compelling backstory and her presence in the film was organic and felt natural to the plot. Definitely was a refreshing take on a female character who contributed greatly to the film as a whole.

Furiosa brought to film a practical every-woman. She was not out to prove that she was just as strong as her male counterparts on the convoy. She has their respect and none of them are looking to override her or dominate her or give her orders. She is the leader of that operation and is looked upon with respect by the Warboys in her convoy. She is their equal, if not higher than them on the level of importance.

Furiosa delivers a performance of a woman who is seeking redemption in the best way possible. You are never introduced to her entire backstory, you know that she has an injury from seeing it in the film, but she never let that be a setback for her and she that she is not invincible. She experiences fear for her actions and decisions that are made prior to the beginning of the film. She is also not above asking for help. She is handy with her mechanic skills and weapon training and she wants nothing more than to find safety and security for the people she cares about and more importantly, finding redemption.

Another thing that gives Furiosa more depth is her apparent physical disability that is not used as a crutch but adds more character to her and it is never explained what happened but you know that she has been changed by it. She is stronger for it and she never uses it as an excuse and she is very independent in her thinking and has an objective in her mind and she believes will be her key salvation and hope for the Wives that she is trying to rescue and protect. There is so much that can be said and maybe I can depth deeper into another blog about it but here are my initial thoughts on the subject as a whole.

Enjoy
